A blue circle with a butterfly inside of it

Serving clients in Downers Grove, Lisle, Lemont, Naperville, Oak Brook, Westmont, Hinsdale, IL and surrounding areas

Anyone who has struggled with depression, anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or other mental health challenges can benefit from Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP).

Depression

Ketamine has the ability to alter the neural pathways in the brain and, when combined with therapy, can change persistent depressive thought patterns.

ANXIETY

In contrast to traditional anti-anxiety medications, ketamine therapy does not typically cause serious long-term side effects or dependency issues.

PTSD

KAP enables you to revisit past traumas more safely and confidently, helping you to process your emotions and heal from these experiences.

Many have viewed ketamine as a magic drug that will alone reverse anxiety, suicidal thoughts, or depression. As a comparison let us think about high blood pressure treatment. Taking a medication can reduce your blood pressure, but losing weight, changing diet, reducing stress, and adding exercise may have a more profound and more beneficial effect for many. Ketamine therapy works in a similar fashion. It is true that some will do well with just the medicine and no other changes in their life, but for many combining the medicine with the psychotherapy will reveal more profound results. Here is the most important part, the results will last longer with possibly less ketamine needed over time. Ketamine treatments offer a unique opportunity that opens a door into the parts of the subconscious that have been traumatized or injured. With the assistance of a trained psychotherapist, healing those injuries is the beginning to dramatic and lasting changes.

Ayafusion Wellness Clinic has on-site therapists that are trained in guided Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy. We also partner with outside therapists and psychologists, allowing for patients to keep their own therapist during treatment. This integrative approach to ketamine therapy benefits patients as they learn to navigate emotions and reach emotional breakthroughs. The combination of guided therapeutic sessions along with our ketamine infusions truly is an incredible tool. Our protocol creates an environment for our patients to do the necessary work and to experience lasting benefits.

What is Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)?

KAP is a very specialized therapeutic method to address issues of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, chronic pain, and addiction. KAP is a guided psychotherapy session under a low dose of ketamine which induces a mild trance-like state where the patient can interact with the therapist and gain the physiological and psychological effects of ketamine.

The focus of a ketamine treatment session is to experience an internalized altered state of consciousness. During a Ketamine Treatment session and immediately afterwards it is incredibly useful and powerful to sit with a therapist that is trained in psychedelic treatments. When combined with psychotherapy, Ketamine can enhance and deepen the therapeutic process making the healing effects more pronounced and more durable.

The patient does not have to interact while under the effects of ketamine. Discussion and interpretation of events under treatment may occur immediately after a treatment and in the following days to weeks.

In this way the benefits and the insights can be brought into your daily life. KAP allows the client to revisit past traumas more safely and confidently, helping you to process your emotions and heal from these experiences. Integration of the experience and the insights that occur is where deep and lasting healing happens.

Administering ketamine in the context of ongoing therapy can make ketamine treatment more effective. It is well established that better outcomes are obtained when therapy is combined with a wide range of psychiatric medications. This may be particularly true for psychedelics, since they are particularly sensitive to the context in which the substance is used and the set with which one approaches the experience.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM KAP?

Anyone who:

  • suffers with Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, OCD, and unresolved trauma.
  • has tried multiple medications and received poor results or no difference in their mood.
  • has been in therapy for years without the improvement or changes they would like to have.
  • seeks a deeper understanding of their negative feelings, thoughts, and habitual patterns.

How is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy Different?

Ketamine therapy is typically offered in an office. After being screened with a medical evaluation, the patient is administered ketamine and left in a treatment room for the length of the medical treatment. When used as a standalone medication, ketamine can provide some people with significant symptom relief, but it can be short-lived and require regular follow-up infusions.

At Ayafusion Wellness Clinic, we offer something different. By combining ketamine therapy with psychotherapy, we provide the opportunity for symptom relief and profound personal growth that can change lives and contribute to a healthy mental wellbeing. By working with a KAP therapist, you can significantly reduce symptoms while simultaneously targeting the underlying issues that may be the source of your symptoms.

The purpose of the ketamine experience is to create a non-ordinary ("altered") state of consciousness, in order to facilitate profound transpersonal (“mystical”, "transcendental", or "spiritual") peak experiences. These experiences can be meaningful in resolving your existential problems, accelerating your growth, and leading to a deep personal transformation and optimization of your lifestyle. Such change is best facilitated within a structured supportive, psychotherapeutic milieu in connection with therapists who have a view of your issues, hopes, desires, and struggles. As a byproduct of your experience, you may feel improvement in your emotional state and reduction in symptoms that bother you such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic manifestations

What the KAP Program looks like

2 INTAKE SESSIONS

Intake sessions, one each for a medical review and a mental health assessment are needed to determine that Ketamine and KAP therapy are right for your situation. This will include completing questionnaires and in person (virtual) interviews to discuss your condition and goals.

2 PREPARATORY SESSIONS

To ensure a meaningful experience we take time to create a supportive environment and instruct you on what to expect during KAP sessions. Our therapists will help you create an optimal mindset, setting intentions, aftercare and how to get the most from your sessions.

3 KAP SESSIONS

During KAP sessions clients describe feelings of lucid dreaming, deep relaxation, wonder, and a capacity to explore challenging emotions and life events with new perspectives.

A medical provider and therapist will guide you through three  journeys, one each week, in a non-ordinary state of consciousness.

3 INTEGRATION SESSIONS

For several days following each KAP session your mind is in an open, neuroplastic state. The brain is able to make new connections and rewrite old thought patterns. Our skilled therapists help you draw out insights and ensure your gains from your Ketamine Exploration are integrated into your life, in order to prevent a relapse of your symptoms.

The Ayafusion Wellness 6-week KAP Program is comprised of total of 10 sessions gives 12+ hrs worth of treatment. Intake, Preparatory and Integration sessions can be virtual.
